Pray for others too

Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God’s people (Ephesians 6:18).

Message: Forgiven Forgiver

Given enough time, conflict will occur. People purposefully or inadvertently hurt one another. Yet, it is important that we approach the resolution of those situations properly.

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13).

  • We must learn to get along well with one another—be patient and flexible.
  • We must forgive, let go of, and forget any issues we have/hold against another believer.
  • We must forgive in the SAME WAY that God forgives us!
  • Isn’t it awesome that God treats us better than we treat one another! He forgives and forgets offenses when we repent. He is patient with us. He does not gossip about us to others. He loves us unconditionally. In fact, even his discipline is based on love not on revenge.

Message: Guard Your Heart

One routine I enjoy doing for my devotional and prayer time is to read a chapter in Proverbs. I really like Proverbs 4:23 (ESV): Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Notice the impact of its meaning when read in its context…

Proverbs 4:20 (NLT) My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. 24 Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. 25 Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. 27 Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

One thing I should take extremely serious—no matter what my stage of life—is to guard my heart well!

  • Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
  • To KEEP is to GUARD. It is to WATCH or PROTECT. It is to PAY ATTENTION to any threats. It is to SHIELD from harm.
  • With all VIGILANCE is like guarding a prisoner you do not want to escape or keeping watch of something very valuable that you don’t want damaged or stolen.
  • Example: Football player running with ball. The more he is guarded, the farther he can go.
  • My most valuable asset in life is my HEART CONDITION!
  • Why? It directly influences how I VIEW life and how EFFECTIVE I am in life.

In the Bible, the heart represents the CORE of who I am.

  • It represents my inner self, my intellect (issues involving my mind), my emotions (how I feel about things), and my will (my desires, motivation, purpose, resolve, or ability to choose).
  • The heart thinks and feels, remembers and desires, and chooses a course of action.
  • My heart—my heart condition—is impacted by what I think about, what I talk about, what I look at, and where I go (or what I experience).
  • Inversely, if I carefully guard my heart then it will guide my thoughts, my words, my dreams, my desires, my experiences, and so.

Message: Everyone Everywhere

Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”

Jesus came to seek and save the lost.

  • The lost are those without a saving relationship with Jesus.
  • The lost are more than people like me or that I like.
  • Not just people who look, act, or think like me. They are more than well to do, educated, put together people…

EVERYONE EVERYWHERE deserves the opportunity to hear about Jesus! And everyone needs Jesus.

Message: Living Water

While living in the desert, we had shrubs lining the walkway to our front door. One night I turned on the irrigation system to water them because they were thirsty. I went to bed. I woke up the next morning and in the quietness of the house heard water trickling. I opened the front door to see the landscaping beds holding a couple of inches of water. We had a big water bill, but those shrubs came alive. They had a different shade of green and the leaves were softer. They went from surviving to thriving!

Our lives can be the same way. We experience seasons where we are just trying to make it through another day. Surviving. But when God shows up, everything changes. Thriving happens!

Message: No Reason to Fear

Very early one morning I was standing in the backyard with Dash (our nine month old family puppy). Suddenly he turns toward the neighbor’s yard and barks crazily. I turn to see a human shaped shadow on the neighbor’s white, privacy fence. My heart starts racing as the shadow moves as I investigate. I soon realize it was my shadow… We all have fears—some more rational than others. But we don’t need to fear when Jesus is near!

You matter to God!
