God is for me

We all face difficult situations. Some that we create for ourselves and others that are created outside of our control. The reality is that I matter to God. And that means that even in my worst moments, God is for me!

Message: In my waiting, God is working!

In our daily lives, we do not like to wait!

  • We will drive out of our way in traffic to keep moving instead of stopping.
  • The waiting room at a doctor’s office should be called a torture room.
  • We pay extra to get a package delivered quickly.

Waiting is of value because in my waiting, God is working!

In my waiting, God is working!

The TIME between planting the seed and harvesting the crop requires WAITING!

  • We plant seeds (prayers, giving, good deeds, and so on) and often must wait for the harvest!
  • After we plant a seed, a lot is happening underground before we see it above ground. Even more is happening before we harvest.
  • Even though not much appears to be happening, God is working in my waiting!

Time BETWEEN asking God and seeing results.

  • Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
  • Don’t lose heart for the battle. Don’t give up.
  • Isaiah 40:31 But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
  • Wait = qavah {kaw-vaw’} = waiting with a sense of expectancy.
“I cannot wait to see what God will do!”
  • When I am waiting on the Lord, I am allowing Him to refresh and renew me.

In my waiting, God is working!

  • People our watching to see what I will do
  • God is at work. Developing me. Working in others.

Don’t give up

Message: Be the One

Be the one you want others to be for you

Be patient: You don’t know all the details

Choose who controls you

Keep the big picture or end in mind

Make the Golden Rule your daily rule

  • Matthew 7:12 (NLT) “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”
  • And to paraphrase Mark 12:29-31, love the one and only true God with ALL you are and love people like you love yourself.

Be the __________ you want others to be for you! Be the friend, be the helper, be the parent, be the spouse, be the worker, and so on… that you want others to be to you.

Honor people because everyone matters to God

  • To honor is to treat with high regard or great respect. To value someone.
  • Valuing people Accepting sinful behavior

So that means that I…

  • Build up over tear down
  • Believe best over assuming the worst. I will find what looking for in a person.
  • Inquire over imagine or ask over assume
  • Let go (forgive) over holding on (bitter). Keep short records.
  • Reconcile over revenge or restore over reject
  • Cheer over criticize or celebrate over compare. If I have a critical spirit, I will always find fault in something or someone.
  • Honor over degrade
  • Time in over time out or serve over sever

Message: Unmet Expectations

TENSION: Unmet Expectations

  • What is an expectation? A looking forward to; anticipation. A looking for as due, proper, or necessary. The way you think things are going to be.
  • What we expect does not always happen the way we hoped: What we expect from a relationship… from a job… from a restaurant… from a vacation… from a church or pastor…
  • Even what we EXPECT from God does not happen the way we thought it should!
  • Sometimes our expectations based on reality other times fantasy (imagination or assumption)

The Crowd Goes Looking for Jesus… and did not get what they expected…

Why are they searching for Jesus?

  1. He inspired them with his teaching?
  2. He helped them with their physical needs?
  3. He looked like their New Moses?
[The one to rescue them from Roman rule and restore Israel to independence and prominence.]
  4. He fed them a good meal and they wanted more free food?
[A big thing when you are being overtaxed and have little resources available.]

After finding him, Jesus gets right to their motive!

  • Motives matter: Some motives are right, and others need to be redirected.
  • Their desire for an uprising seems to be quickly fading but they LONG for ANOTHER MEAL!
  • Jesus is now shifting his whole ministry paradigm… crowds start falling away

Jesus loves you! You matter to God. He wants you to have real life.

You matter to God!
